Bradenton Marauders News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, jump out to an early lead Friday, only to watch it melt away, eventually falling 9-5 to the Daytona Cubs at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
As has become the norm, the Marauders were the first team to tango, plating five runs in the fifth. Aaron Baker led off the assault with his sixth homerun of the year. That was followed by a Cole White double off the top of the wall. Bengie Gonzalez then was hit by a pitch in front of a Robbie Grossman walk. With the bases loaded, White scored on a Ramon Cabrera sacrifice fly. Calvin Anderson and Elevys Gonzalez then hit back-to-back doubles for the 5-0 lead.
Daytona responded quickly, scoring two in the fourth and four in the sixth. All but one were charged to starter Quinton Miller, who threw better than the five runs in five innings would indicate.
Miller surrendered the first run of the sixth on an RBI single from Rubi Silva. Two batters later he shook off Carlos Garcia and stayed in the game, allowing a single to Logan Watkins. After that Miller was removed for Eliecer Navarro. The lefty's second pitch of the night turned into Junior Lake's sixth homerun. Daytona led 6-5. The cubs added three more on Lake triple in the eighth.
The win is taken by Jordan Latham. The loss suffered y Navarro. Bradenton falls to 19-30 while Daytona is a minor league best 36-12.
The two teams continue their four game series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark Saturday at 7:05. The Marauders will throw Nathan Baker against Aaron Kurcz. Radio coverage begins at 6:50 on 1280-AM WTMY. For more information visit BradentonMarauders.com.
