Maple Leafs and Phantoms Reschedule May 23rd Game

May 16, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Toronto Phantoms News Release

The NHL's Eastern Conference Final has created a scheduling conflict at the Air Canada Centre. Game 4 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes is set to face off on Thursday, May 23rd, the same night the Toronto Phantoms were scheduled to host the New Jersey Gladiators in an Arena Football League game. To accommodate the NHL's post-season schedule, the Phantoms and Gladiators will now kick off at 7:00 PM at Air Canada Centre on Friday, May 24th.

"We are so very grateful to our friends with the Phantoms", says Robert Hunter, Senior Vice President of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. "We know how exactly how much work goes into staging and promoting an event at this great facility and how inconvenient it can be to move that event to another night. The Phantoms clearly support the need to reschedule and we thank them for that."

As a token of their gratitude, Hunter and the Maple Leafs have agreed to purchase 5,000 tickets for the Phantoms May 24th home date. Those tickets will be distributed free of charge to the first 5,000 fans through the turnstiles at Air Canada Centre for Game 4 of the Maple Leafs/Hurricanes series.

Rob Godfrey, the President & CEO of the Toronto Phantoms Arena Football club says, "Those of us with the Phantoms, from the front office to the coaching staff and on to the players, are thrilled with the post-season success our Leafs are enjoying. The spirit those players are showing in the face of a number of injuries is inspiring to our club. If we can help the Maple Leafs in their quest for the cup by moving the date of our game, we're more than happy to do so. I speak for the entire organization when I say, Go Leafs Go!"

Tickets for the Toronto Phantoms home games at Air Canada Centre are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (416) 341-1234 or by logging onto www.torontophantoms.com. Get "Insane for the Game" and be a part of "Thursday Night Gridiron Madness"!
