Miami Manatees News Release

MIAMI, Fla. – Miami Manatees Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced a trade with the Macon Trax.

The Manatees sent forward Bruce Watson to the Macon Trax for the WHA2 playing rights for center Jeremy Kyte, defensemen Stephane Desjardin, and forward/defensemen Corey Smith.

Hailing from Nepean, Ontario, Jeremy Kyte attended UMass-Lowell for three seasons from 1998 to 2000 and is entering his fifth season of professional hockey. Last season with the Macon Trax, Kyte had eight goals and nine assists for 17 points, and added one assist in three playoff games.

"He is a really solid center who helped Macon in the playoffs last year. He really helped them as a late addition, and I am confident that he will be a solid contributor to our club as well." Boyer said.

Entering his 11th year of professional hockey, Desjardin played 54 games for the Trax last season and was tied for third in penalty minutes with 113. Desjardin scored four goals and had 16 points. In the 1998-1999 season, Desjardin had a personal best 25 points in 60 games with the CHL Topeka Scarecrows.

"Desjardin is a real solid defenseman. He is a great player who is a phenomenal skater. He really closes down the ice on guys by taking away their space to move and time to react."

Corey Smith, who played his sixth season of professional hockey last season, was Macon's third leading scorer with eight goals and 57 assists with 55 penalty minutes. In the playoffs for the Trax, Smith contributed one assist in three games. "He clearly is one of the most skilled guys in the league. He is a little guy with great vision and passing senses. He would be a great addition to this team."

"I really like the players we got and it was a tough decision to make a trade like that." Boyer said. "Watson obviously brings a lot to the table, but we were able to get a lot of value in return." The Miami Manatees play in the six team WHA2 and will face off against the Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Orlando Seals, Alabama Slammers, and the Macon Trax in late October.

Season Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825).
