Miami Manatees News Release

MIAMI, Fla – Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced the first trade in WHA2 history

by sending forward Joe Urbanik to Orlando for Forward Darcy Johnson.

"He is player that brings a lot of grit to the table and brings a lot of skill. He will be a huge physical presence for us and at times, he can dominate games. His goal is to play at the highest level possible."

Darcy Johnson had 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 54 games with the Seals last season. He added another goal and an assist in the Seals six playoff games.

A Native American hailing from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Johnson spent the 98-99 and 99-00 seasons playing in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, scoring 58 goals and 118 points, and accumulating 653 penalty minutes. In the 2001-2002 season, Zac Boyer and Darcy Johnson played together in Colorado of the West Coast Hockey League, where Johnson scored 9 points in 66 games.

"In my experience playing with him in the past, I saw a lot of potential in him and I still see that he has huge potential. That is why I brought him to Miami with me."

Boyer's Miami Manatees will face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Macon Trax, and a yet-to-be-named Central Alabama team in late October.
