Mammoth Receives Bonfils Blood Center Community Partner Award

January 21, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth received the Dr. Ben Galloway Community Partner Award from Bonfils Blood Center on Monday night at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for its work on Bonfils' High School Heroes program. The initiative encourages Colorado's youth to help make a difference in their communities by donating blood.

"Our work with Bonfils is one of the initiatives I'm most proud of, as we support the blood center's mission to save and enhance lives," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett.

"The Dr. Ben Galloway Community Partner Award was created as a way to honor community partners who go above and beyond to help increase awareness of Bonfils Blood Center and the importance of blood donation in our community," said Bonfils' vice president of marketing and community development Jessica Maitland. "We are very grateful for the partnership between the Colorado Mammoth and our High School Heroes program which encourages Colorado's youth to make a difference and become involved in their community by making blood donation a lifelong and lifesaving habit."

Mammoth players, Wild Bunch dancers and Wooly, the team mascot, made more than a dozen appearances in 2012 at high schools in the greater metro area. They recruited donors, signed autographs, posed for photos, and thanked those who gave blood. Several became donors themselves.

"Life is so precious," continued Govett. "Our partnership with Bonfils led to an increase in the number of donors, which means more lives saved. That's far more important than anything we do on the field."

A Bonfils public service announcement, that was produced, filmed and edited by the Mammoth, featured transition player Ilija Gajic. It aired locally on TV and radio stations.

Colorado, fresh off an overtime road victory over Calgary, takes on the Roughnecks on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center this Friday, January 25 at 7pm MST. Tickets start at just $10 and are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
