Pittsburgh Penguins rookie forward Ryan Malone (Omaha) was one of 22 players named to the NHL's 2004 YoungStars Game, presented by Upper Deck on Saturday Feb. 7 in St. Paul, Minn., during NHL All-Star Weekend.

The YoungStars Game, in its third season, is a showcase of some of the finest young talent from around the NHL.

Malone is the fourth former USHL star to be selected for the YoungStars Game. The others were defenseman Rostislav Klesla (Sioux City), and forwards Erik Cole (Des Moines) and Tyler Arnason (Fargo-Moorhead).

Malone, who was tied for second in scoring on the Penguins after 49 games, is also among the rookie leaders in the first half of the 2003-04 season, ranking fourth in the NHL in goals (11) and points (22).

As a Lancer in 1998-99, Malone posted 14 goals and 22 assists in 51 games.

"I learned a lot on and off the ice in the USHL," said Malone. "It was great. It definitely got me ready."

The YoungStars Game will be played in a 4-on-4 format. Each roster consists of six forwards, four defensemen, and one goaltender. The game will be played in three 10-minute running-clock periods. There will be a four-minute intermission between each period.
