Miami Manatees News Release


Games this Week: The Miami Manatees face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads Friday night, Nov. 14th, and against the Jacksonville Barracudas Saturday night, Nov. 15th. Face-off times for both games are 7:05 at the Miami Arena.

The Records:

Lakeland: 2 GP, 0-2-0 (Home 0-1-0, Road 0-1-0) 4 GF, 9 GA

Jacksonville: 2 GP, 2-0-0, 4 Points (Home 0-0-0, Road 2-0-0) 7 GF, 3 GA

The Opponents: Friday night the Lakeland Loggerheads come into town. The teams faced each other in pre-season on Nov. 1st, with the Manatees pulling ahead with a 6-5 come from behind overtime win.

In that pre-season game, the Manatees scored three goals in the third period to force the overtime. Miami right wing Oak Hewer had two goals and an assist in the third period, and center Ryan Kiley scored the game winning goal with 16 seconds left in overtime to win the game.

In the regular season, Lakeland is winless in two games so far, having lost to Macon and Orlando. The Loggerheads leading scorer with three assists is Center Paul Vincent, and right wing Chris Migliore is leading the team in goals with two. Goaltender Tyler Murray is fourth in the WHA2 in GAA with 3.07 The first 3,500 fans for Friday night's game will get a Manatees magnet schedule, courtesy of the Towers at Park West, the official housing complex of the Miami Manatees.

The Jacksonville Barracudas, coached by former NHL star Ron Duguay, will take on the Manatees Saturday night. Jacksonville is undefeated this season, defeating the Alabama Slammers twice.

Leading the Barracudas with six points (one goal and five points) is center Kory Baker, who is also tied for 1st in points in the WHA2 with Miami's Eric Perricone. Baker also leads the WHA2 with five assists. Jacksonville's power play is 2nd in the league at 25% (4-16).

Entertaining the fans of all ages at Saturday's game will be the world famous Zooperstars, featuring such lovable mascots as Shark McGwire, Centipete Rose, Whale Gretzky, and more.

Big Opening Night: The Manatees made quite an impression in their opening night game, as the Manatees defeated the Macon Trax by a score of 10 to 6. Center Darren Cain scored the Manatees first goal 38 seconds into the first period, as well as becoming the first player in franchise history to get a hat trick.

Eric Perricone led the Manatees with six points in the game, which included a hat trick and three assists. Getting the first ever short-handed goal in WHA2 history was left wing Kevin Swider. Center Ryan Kiley also had a short-handed goal in the Manatees win. Sean Weaver started the game between the pipes, stopping 29 of 36 shots in the Manatees win.

Inside the Numbers: The Manatees lead the WHA2 in power play percentage, converting on 50% of their chances. The Manatees also lead the WHA2 in short handed goals, scoring two short handed goals against Macon last Saturday night.

Next Up: The Manatees next opponents will be the Jacksonville Barracudas on Nov. 15th and then will head to Orlando to play the Orlando Seals on Nov 23rd. The next home game for the Manatees is Nov. 26th against the Orlando Seals.
