Major League Rugby Supports Cancer Awareness with July Jersey Auction
Published on July 13, 2021 under Major League Rugby (MLR) News Release
DALLAS - During the final stretch of the 2021 Major League Rugby (MLR) regular season, teams join together and focus on raising awareness and money to fight cancer. Teams will wear pink jerseys, called kits in rugby parlance, during matches July 10-11 and July 17-18.
Through the MLR partnership with the American Cancer Society and Dash Auction, the specialty-designed game-worn and autographed kits will be auctioned, and profits will be donated to the American Cancer Society and Canadian Cancer Society for cancer research. Fans can bid on the one-of-a-kind jerseys and support the cause through Tuesday, July 20 on DASH Auction, linked here.
"Everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer and our players and teams wanted to do something to help support the cause of finding a cure and supporting cancer awareness," said George Killebrew, Major League Rugby Commissioner. "Our players are some of the strongest and toughest professional athletes in the world, but cancer is a terrible disease that doesn't care how big or strong you are. We have players and coaches who have dealt with some tough situations, and we want to do whatever we can to support the American Cancer Society and the Canadian Cancer Society."
"Our mission at the American Cancer Society is to help fund research to make critical advances in cancer treatment and to ensure patients and their families have access to the care, resources and services they need," said Howard Byck, senior vice president of corporate and sports alliances at the American Cancer Society. "Funds raised through this partnership with Major League Rugby will help support cancer patients and their families."
DASH Auction is conducting the kit auctions, with all teams promoting through their social media channels as well as the DASH Auction website. Participating MLR teams have dedicated landing pages with live auctions running now:
