Major Indoor Soccer League Names Director of Officials

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that the Joe Della Penna has been named Director of Officials. Della Penna has been involved in indoor soccer since the original MISL in the early 1980s.
"Though late in the season, it is a pleasure to have Joe officially assume the role of Director of Officials for the MISL," said David Grimaldi, Commissioner of the MISL. "He has done an outstanding job on the field as one of our senior referees for many years and has taken it upon himself to voluntarily coordinate all our referee assignments for the past three seasons. His long-standing commitment to the MISL and professional indoor soccer has been unwavering and very much appreciated by everyone in the MISL."
Della Penna, who hails from the Philadelphia area, is a graduate of Father Judge High School and St. Joseph's University and has worked for Graybar Electric Co. for more than 30 years. He holds a B License from the United States Soccer Federation and is a USSF instructor. Director of Officials duties include assigning the officials to all games, reviewing game tapes and training and disciplining the officials.
With just 13 games remaining in the 2010-11 regular season, the Baltimore Blast and Milwaukee Wave have secured their spots in the 2011 postseason; the Omaha Vipers, Chicago Riot and Missouri Comets are battling for third place and the final playoff spot. The 2011 postseason will begin the weekend of March 18th with a home-and-home Semifinal series between the second- and third-place teams. The regular season champion will host the 2011 MISL Championship Game and will await the winner of the Semifinal series.
