Main Elementary Welcomes the Rome Gladiators

March 28, 2007 - World Basketball Association (WBA)
Rome Rage News Release

Members of the Rome Gladiators took time out of their schedule to visit the students at Main Elementary School.

"I really enjoyed visiting the kids and spending time with them", said Asst. Coach Bryant Caldwell. "We taught them basic fundamentals and had a good time doing it."

As soon as the Gladiators arrived, students cheered and roared as the players received hand slaps from the crowd. Coach Caldwell introduced the players as the students gave them a round of applause.

Immediately, students began volunteering for exercise drills such as stretching and layup drills. The drills quickly became "ooh's" and "aah's" when the layups turned into dunks. Participating students turned their layups into dunks, receiving help from some of the players.

The students continued to stay interactive, participating in a 5-on-5 scrimmage composed of players, students and teachers. Next, students also were in competition with the players to see who could make five shots from behind the arc the fastest.

Coach Caldwell concluded the session with the students by having them participate in line drills with the players. Afterwards, students were able to get autographs from players and Coach Caldwell.

"I look forward to the next appearance," stated Caldwell. "It's going to be another fun filled, educational day."

The Rome Gladiators will appear at Model Elementary on April sixth. For more information, visit www.romeknights.com.
