November 14, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release

MINNEAPOLIS - Mahoning Valley Phantoms goaltender Ryan Zapolski was named the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) North Division Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 12.

Zapolski, 19, turned aside 79 of 82 shots last weekend backstopping the Phantoms to three wins over Marquette. On Friday, the Erie, Pa., native stopped all 17 shots as Mahoning Valley blanked the Rangers, 5-0. The next night, Zapolski made 27 saves in a 7-2 Phantoms triumph. On Sunday, he stopped 34 shots - and added two assists - as the Phantoms cruised to a 6-1 win.

"Ryan's overall game continues to improve," said Phantoms head coach Bob Mainhardt. "He has been absolutely solid and deserves a lot of credit for our recent success."

A Mercyhurst College recruit, Zapolski has appeared in 18 games this season fashioning a 12-5-1 record to compliment a 2.95 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.

It is the second time this season Zapolski has been named the North Division Player of the Week. He also won the award for the week ending Oct. 29.
