BROOKLYN - The captain is back for the Metropolitan Riveters. Madison Packer, the second-leading scorer in NWHL history, has inked a contract to play her sixth season with the club in 2020-21. And this time, Packer is playing for something more.

"I never imagined I would have the opportunity to have a child of my own watching me play the game I love, and next season [wife] Anya and I will get to share those memories with our son," said Packer. "It's something Anya and I are very excited for, and we feel blessed to have the opportunity to experience as a family."

Packer won the Isobel Cup with the Riveters in 2018, is the team's all-time leading scorer and is a four-time NWHL All-Star, serving as one of the teams' captains in 2020. She is second all-time in NWHL scoring (85), goals (42) and assists (43) and is the league's all-time leader in power play goals (13) and power play points (23).

In 2019-20, Packer finished fifth in the league in scoring (34), shared the league lead in power play goals (5) and became the first player to score at least eight goals in four consecutive seasons. She scored two goals in the NWHL Labatt Blue Buffalo Believes Classic, the first regular season outdoor game in league history, and was named the VEDA Player of the Week on Dec. 31, 2019.

"The 2019-20 Riveters were one of my favorite teams ever, and it was the most fun I've had playing hockey in a long time," said Packer. "It was a fantastic year for the league and all of the players, as we showed everyone that we are here for business and aren't going away. I look forward to continuing to be part of the league that is writing a narrative for women's hockey and continuing to make history. I have tremendous respect for every one of my teammates and my opponents for the work we did in moving the needle last season, and I will continue to stand proud beside those pioneers. The Riveters are a top-notch organization with a locker room made up of world-class leaders, athletes, and people. I am humbled for the opportunity to continue to wear that jersey. The NWHL and Riveters have been my home for half a decade and I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."

Packer won an NCAA championship at Wisconsin in 2011, was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in her senior season in 2013-14. When she completed her collegiate career, Packer was one of just 19 players in Badgers program history to score at least 100 points (104). Packer won gold medals with Team USA at the 2008 and 2009 IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships, scoring 20 points in 10 games across those tournaments.
