Toronto Six News Release

TORONTO - The Toronto Six have signed Mackenzie MacNeil, a tenacious 5-8 forward from Richmond Hill, Ontario who played at the University of Vermont and one season in the CWHL before spending last season playing pro hockey in Denmark. MacNeil is the 18th player signed by the Six for their first NWHL season.

"Growing up playing the majority of my minor hockey career in the Toronto area, I'm thrilled to be joining the Toronto Six for their inaugural NWHL season," said MacNeil. "To me, playing for the Toronto Six is all about growing an incredible new program and giving back to one of the best hockey cities in the world that helped shape me into the person and athlete I am today."

MacNeil continued: "The Six has made a large impact on the local community in a short few months. The organization as a whole from the management to my teammates - everything and everyone is first-class. I look forward to being part of a team of leaders and role models in the community both on and off the ice."

MacNeil played 140 games for the UVM Catamounts, establishing herself as a strong defensive forward capable of chipping in with clutch goals. In her senior year, she earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors after her hat trick led Vermont to a victory over Ryerson. As a junior, she helped the team reach Hockey Easy Semifinals for only the second time in program history.

"It's great to see Mackenzie continue her playing career with the Toronto Six," said University of Vermont head coach Jim Plumer. "Her speed will surely be something that teammates and fans notice and Mack's passion for the game is evident every time she's on the ice. I am looking forward to seeing the impact she will make on the new NWHL franchise."

After her collegiate career, the Ontario native played 25 games for the CWHL's Toronto Furies in 2018-29 and had two goals and two assists. With the Six, MacNeil is reunited with Furies teammates Shiann Darkangelo, Emma Greco, and Elaine Chuli. In 2019, MacNeil played eight games in Denmark for Hvidovre of the EWHL.

Before Vermont, MacNeil played two seasons with Toronto Aeros of the PWHL, serving as an assistant captain in 2013-14.

"Mackenzie is a great athlete with standout speed," said Toronto GM Mandy Cronin. "She has the ability to create offensive opportunities for her teammates with her relentless forechecking."
