Ohio Machine News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO (June 2, 2014) - Major League Lacrosse announced Monday that Ohio Machine attackman Marcus Holman was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Ohio's 15-11 win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks on May 31. Additionally, Machine midfielder Tom Schreiber was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week following the Machine's victory over the defending back-to-back champions.

Holman helped lead the Machine offensively, scoring four goals, including a 2-point goal, and adding one assist to lead all players with 6 points. He also collected five groundballs from the attack position. It is the second time this season Holman has led (or tied) the Machine in goals and points in a game.

"First and foremost, it was a huge win for our team," Holman said. "You can't have individual awards without team success and I think our team took a huge step on Saturday. I think we can continue that Friday night against Boston."

Holman provided the key play in the Machine's victory, sinking the team's first 2-point goal of the season midway through the third quarter. With the Machine a man-up and a goal down, Holman and fellow attackman Steele Stanwick ran a hidden ball trick that resulted in a 2-point goal that gave the Machine a lead it would hold the rest of the game. Holman is currently second on the Machine in points (15) and goals (9).

Schreiber helped the Machine on both sides of the ball on Saturday, scoring a goal and adding an assist in addition to playing a solid two-way game. He collected two groundballs and helped the team erase an early 3-1 deficit in the first quarter with a timely goal.

"I'm honored to be named the Cascade Rookie of the Week but it's a result of a total team effort," Schreiber said. "We had a really good week of preparation, and went hard in practice Friday night and it showed what type of team we are on Saturday night."

Since the end of his college season, Schreiber has played in three games for the Machine and has tallied five goals and seven points.

Mike Manley of the Rochester Rattlers was awarded the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. Manley scored a goal in the Rattlers 18-11 victory over the Florida Launch. Manley and the Rattlers defense held the high-powered Florida attack to just three goals in the second half, including a single goal in the third quarter.

The Machine returns to Selby Stadium for on June 6 at 8 p.m. when the team takes on the Boston Cannons. Tickets for the game against Boston start at $12 and can be purchased by calling 614-754-1973 or visiting www.theohiomachine.com/tickets.
