Machine Take Down Defending Champs, 22-10

COLUMBUS, OH - On a cold May night in Columbus, the Machine earned a 22-10 victory over the defending MLL champion New York Lizards in front of 2,365 fans at Ohio Dominican University. New York scored the first three goals of the game, but Ohio answered and did not look back.

New York's Tommy Palasek recorded a hat trick in the first quarter and the Lizards took a 4-3 advantage into the second quarter. Ohio outscored New York, 19-6, the rest of the way to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Lizards fell to 2-1.

Ohio's Brandon Mangan recorded a hat trick in the second quarter and Brian Karalunas and Peter Baum each added a goal to give the Machine an 8-6 halftime lead. Tom Schreiber of the Machine scored in the first minute of the third quarter and then assisted Mark Cockerton with his goal in the next minute. Ohio outscored New York by six goals in the third.

Marcus Holman, the reigning MLL Offensive Player of the Week, scored a game-high six goals, including one power-play goal. Schreiber totaled eight points (2 goals, 6 assists). Baum (4 goals, one two-point goal) and Mangan (4 goals, 1 assist) each recorded five points. Scott Rodgers started and made 10 saves for the Machine, while Adam Fullerton made seven saves in relief.

The Machine will travel to Harvard Stadium next week to face the Cannons at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21st. Ohio defeated Boston in both matchups last season.
