Ohio Machine News Release

The Ohio Machine came back from an early four goal deficit before falling to the Florida Launch 10-9 at FAU Stadium Saturday evening.

Florida attackman Casey Powell scored his fifth goal of the night with a little over two minutes remaining to give the Launch the lead for good.

Machine midfielder Peter Baum tied the game at 9 with his third goal of the game with a just over three minutes left in the contest.

The Machine, now 1-2 on the season, fell down 4-0 to start the game before scoring the games next six goals. Five different Machine players found the back of the net during the run. Midfielder Tom Schreiber, the first overall selection in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, scored his first career goal with 90 seconds left to play in the first half to give the Machine a 5-4 lead at halftime.

The second half of play saw both teams settle down and start increasing ball movement to facilitate the opening of shooting lanes. The Machine and Launch traded goals back and forth during an exciting and fast paced second half.

Machine midfielder Peter Baum drove hard to the net with 1:10 remaining but was turned away by Launch goaltender Brett Queener. The Machine attempted to control the ball in the Florida zone but ultimately could not come up with another scoring chance.

Baum and attackman Logan Schuss, making his 2014 debut for the Machine, finished with 3 goals each. Midfielders Dominique Alexander and Kiel Matisz each had a goal and attackman Steele Stanwick finished the night with 2 assists.

Machine Goalie Scott Rodgers made 4 saves on 8 shots before leaving the game early in the second quarter after having his knee run into awkwardly by a Launch attacker. Brian Phipps played extremely well in relief stopping 10 of 16 shots for the rest of the game. Matt Dolente won 9 of 21 face-offs for the Machine.

Next up for the Machine is the New York Lizards on May 17. The game will be played at 8 p.m. at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.
