Ohio Machine News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Machine continued their season with a 14-10 loss against the Charlotte Hounds at Fortress Obetz on May 5th.
The Hounds started out the game with the first three goals which put them up to an early 3-0 lead. The Machine's Kyle Harrison retaliated with 1:13 left in the first quarter to make it a 3-1 game.
The second quarter was full of goals by both teams. Charlotte put up 3 points and the Machine scored 4. The Hounds were up 6-5 at the end of the half.
The Machine started out the second half with a quick goal to tie up the game at 6 points apiece. The rest of the quarter was filled with attacking and scoring by both teams and the score was 9-9.
To start out the fourth quarter, the Machine took the lead off of a goal by attacker Connor Cannizzaro, but the Hounds scored the last 5 goals of the game, putting the Machine in a hole.
Charlotte came away with the victory, giving the Machine their first loss of the season at 14-10.
"I thought Charlotte played very well," Head Coach Bear Davis said. "They've got a very gritty team and they certainly have grinded out some wins. And we didn't play well. We didn't play up to our standards. We have to work on our possessions and valuing our possessions. I thought there was a lot of possessions that we threw away. We really didn't do a good job of getting our offense out there and let them get to work."
Tom Schreiber finished the game with a hat trick, putting up points in the second and third quarters. Pat Young, Harrison and Cannizzaro all put up two points apiece, and Ambler added one for the Machine.
"The effort was there, which is a good thing," Schreiber said. "We're going to be losing games throughout the season but it's about how you respond. I think we did some good work responding and then it just wasn't enough towards the end."
The Machine are now 6-6 against the Charlotte Hounds and 3-3 when playing them at home.
"I mean that's the nature of the league," Schreiber said. "We could lose by 15 to New York later in the year. The league is just that talented. I think it's a testament to the overall talent. And you have to give credit where it's due. The Hounds were awesome today. I'm sure we would like a few of those plays back but it's week two, and we'll take a look at the film and make our adjustments."
The Machine will be back in action next Saturday, May 12 against the Charlotte Rattlers at 5:00 p.m. This will also be Real Men Wear Pink Weekend at Fortress Obetz in honor of the American Cancer Society and we will ask all of our fans to wear pink in support.
