Machine Announce Rookies' Debuts

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Machine announces three debuts of its rookies from the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft class, including 2013 Tewaaraton Award Finalist Marcus Holman and The Ohio State University players Logan Schuss and Dominique Alexander, who will be playing in their first MLL game on Thursday, May 23, in a CBS Sports Network televised game against the Hamilton Nationals.

"These three rookies will bring a lot of positive energy to the team," said Machine Head Coach Ted Garber. "They are all looking forward to being part of the Ohio Machine and playing in the MLL. We're excited to see what they will bring to the team and to the field this season."

Marcus Holman joins the Machine after ending an historic 2013 senior tenure with the University of North Carolina. While leading the UNC team as a solo captain, Holman set UNC's all-time leading scorer record and recorded an ACC-best 74 points in the regular season. Holman was also named 2013 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ACC and the ACC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Ohio State players Logan Schuss and Dominique Alexander helped the Buckeyes to the NCAA Quarterfinals this past season, both setting career highs during their 2013 senior seasons. Schuss finished his college career as OSU's all-time leading goal scorer with 146 and second in school history for points with 237 after setting a career-high 44 goals, 28 assists and 72 points in 2013. With the Buckeyes, Schuss was named a four-time First Team All-ECAC, two-time All-American and 2013 USILA Scholar All-America, as well as ECAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Alexander served as co-captain of the 2013 team and played in 62 games for the Buckeyes. A 2013 USILA Scholar All-America, Alexander closed out his career as a Buckeye with 47 goals, 48 assists and 95 points after recording a career-high 20 assists, 29 points and 28 groundballs in 17 games.

"The thing that impresses me most about these guys, besides their play on the field throughout their entire college careers which speaks for itself, is their competitive spirit and drive to be the best of the best," said Machine President and General Manager John Algie. "They each have the fire to compete at the highest level of the sport - the character and toughness that it takes to become one of the best players in the world, and to help the team win by any means necessary. You just can't have enough of those guys on your roster and I know they can't wait to step on the field to play for the Machine."

Other members of the Machine's 2013 Collegiate Draft class include Peter Baum (Colgate), Chase Carraro (Denver), Joe Lisicky (Lynchburg), Kevin Mack (Ohio State) and Colin Fleming (Massachusetts). Face-off specialist Chase Carraro (Denver) may elect to join the Machine once his senior season is completed. Carraro and the Pioneers are currently in the 2013 NCAA Final Four competing this weekend in Philadelphia against Syracuse University. Kevin Mack and Colin Fleming are on the college inactive roster and eligible to practice with the Machine, as well as to be called up to the 25-man active roster at any time. Peter Baum and Joe Lisicky are not expected to join the Ohio Machine for the 2013 season.

"We were looking forward to getting both Peter Baum and Joe Lisicky into the fold with the Machine this season but injuries have gotten in the way. After telling us that he has been battling a meniscus injury, we don't expect Peter to join the Machine this year. We also expect Joe to apply for a medical redshirt in the offseason after missing most of his senior year due to a lower-body injury," said Algie. "There is always an inherent risk with any draft pick, be it injury-, talent- or work-related. We've hedged our bets accordingly and are prepared to move forward starting with this game against Hamilton."

The Machine also have placed captain Greg Bice on the injured reserved roster due to a lower body injury that was sustained in Saturday's game against the New York Lizards.

The Ohio Machine takes on the Hamilton Nationals on Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night. Tickets are $20 at the gate. Military personnel will receive half off tickets discount with a valid ID at the gate.
