Loudoun United Hosts Charleston Battery After Back-To-Back League Wins

Leesburg, VA - Loudoun United FC returns to Segra Field this Saturday, August 8, to host Charleston Battery in USL Championship action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET as the Red-and-White look to extend their two-match league winning streak and earn another important result at home.

The Matchup

Loudoun enters Saturday's match following a 2-0 home victory against Hartford Athletic. Abdellatif Aboukoura opened the scoring just before halftime before Thor Úlfarsson added the second goal in the second half. The result marked Loudoun's second consecutive victory and clean sheet after earning a 1-0 road win against Indy Eleven the previous weekend. The Red-and-White also faced Major League Soccer side D.C. United in a midweek friendly at Audi Field. Loudoun scored twice in a competitive 3-2 defeat before turning its attention back to USL Championship play.

Charleston travels to Leesburg following a 5-0 victory against Brooklyn FC. Five different players found the net for the Battery, with the first scoring just 21 seconds into the match. Saturday will be the third meeting between Loudoun and Charleston across all competitions this season. The Battery earned a 2-1 victory at Segra Field in the Prinx Tires USL Cup on April 25. Charleston also claimed a 4-1 result in the first league meeting between the clubs on June 24.

The Red-and-White will look to build on their recent defensive performances, remain composed in possession and play with urgency in the attacking third as they push for a third consecutive league victory.

Head Coach Anthony Limbrick on Saturday's matchup with Charleston Battery:

"Charleston will be a very tough test. We have played them a couple of times this season. We had a narrow 2-1 loss at home in the cup, where we played very well. They scored late, but we were positive, played on the front foot and took the game to them. Away from home, I think we caught them at the right time as they were beginning to hit their form. We had a lot of chances early in the game, but they scored a couple of goals in quick succession. We know what a good team they are, so we need to make sure we defend properly, match up man for man and deal with their attacking threats. We are also in good form and currently sit third in the form table over the last five games, just above Charleston. I think it is going to be a great game, and it is one we are really looking forward to as a team.."
