Los Angeles Dodgers Acquire Two Golden Baseball League Players

(San Ramon, CA. February 24, 2010) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired the contracts of INF Dustin Yount from the Tucson Toros and OF Sergio Pedroza from the Victoria Seals.

Yount, 27, the power hitting son of Hall of Fame Shortstop Robin Yount hit.310 for the Toros in 2009, while leading the team in home runs (11) and walks (32). The 27-year old also played an integral role in helping the Toros reach the GBL Championship Series in their inaugural season by reaching base 21 times via hit or walk in 9 postseason contests last year. He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 9th round of the 2001 amateur draft and spent six seasons in their organization, reaching as high as the Double-A level.

Pedroza, 25, was previously in the Dodgers' organization after being taken in the third round of the 2005 amateur draft. He reached as high as AA before being released at the end of the 2008 season. In 2009, he joined the Victoria Seals in the inauguaral year and led the GBL in homeruns (20) and was second in RBI (81). He also hit.322 in 304 regular-season at-bats. Late in the season he was traded to the Calgary Vipers where he led the team to the GBL Championship and was named Championship Series MVP.

Yount is the fourth member of the 2009 Tucson Toros and Pedroza is the third member of the 2009 Victoria Seals to have their contracts acquired by a major league organization.
