Long Beach Armada News Release
(Long Beach, CA.) On the heels of signing 4 former major league 1st round draft choices to their 2008 roster, The Long Beach Armada of the Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that they have agreed to terms with former 2nd round Minnesota Twins Draft Choice Cleatus Davidson for the upcoming 2008 season. Davidson, was selected straight out of Lake Wales High School in the second round (42nd overall) of the 1994 MLB draft. Davidson was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on May 30, 1999, with the Minnesota Twins.
"The Armada are happy to add a great veteran presence to our middle infield," said Long Beach Armada Manager Steve Yeager. "Cleat knows his way around the diamond and in the batter's box and will bring some added speed to Long Beach in 2008."
Davidson, 31, is no stranger to the Golden Baseball League, where he played for the Mesa Miners in 2005, batting .289 with 27 RBI, 19 steals, and 58 runs in 74 games. In 13 minor league seasons, including 9 seasons in the Twins, Padres, Cardinals, and Yankees organizations, the fleet-footed Davidson has stolen a total of 274 bases.
"I am happy to be playing baseball again and to be back in the Golden Baseball League," said Cleatus Davidson. "I put up some good numbers when I was in Mesa and plan to do it again this time in Long Beach."
