Long Beach Armada Looking For Pro Baseball Players

(Long Beach, CA. April 18, 2007) The Long Beach Armada professional minor league baseball team announced today that open tryouts will be held on May 5th & 6th at Veterans Stadium at Long Beach City College as the team seeks pro players to finalize their spring training roster.

Armada Manager Darrell Evans (21 year major league career including 1984 World Series Championship, 2 All-Star selections, and 1985 American League Home Run Champion), pitching coach Jon Warden (1968 Detroit Tigers World Series Champion), and hitting coach Dan DiPace (minor league batting champion) will be present over the two day period, evaluating tryout attendees and selecting players to fill open spots on the Armada roster. Contracts will be offered at the end of the two-day event.

Over the past two seasons, ten Armada players have had their contracts purchased by major league organizations (with four players advancing as high as Triple-A) and two by professional leagues in Asia. Although not required, most tryout players are expected to have pro or collegiate experience. Former major league players that have been members of the Armada the last two seasons include Jose Canseco, Bud Smith, Adam Pettyjohn, Chris Wakeland, Mark Quinn, and Alan Newman,

Pre-registration will begin on Wednesday, April 18 at www.longbeacharmada.com or by calling the Long Beach Armada front office at 562-434-7161. Interested persons may also register on May 5th at 8am at Veterans Stadium.

Pre-registration will begin on Wednesday, April 18. Players may also register for the event on May 5th at 8am. All players must report on the field no later than 9am. Only those players asked back to the May 6th tryout will be welcomed to participate on that day.

COST

Pre-registration cost to tryout is $40 (no exceptions). Day-of-tryout (May 5th) cost is $50 - CASH ONLY.
