Lisa Haley Appointed NWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations

(Brooklyn, N.Y.) - The National Women's Hockey League today announced that Lisa Haley has been appointed Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. Haley, who has built a distinguished career as a coach and player development leader in Canada and most recently served as assistant coach of the NWHL's Toronto Six, begins this redefined role immediately. She succeeds Deputy Commissioner Michelle Picard, who departs the league for a new position with RISE.
"Lisa's impressive hockey background is filled with accomplishments in leadership and player development roles," said Commissioner Tyler Tumminia. "The entire NWHL stands to benefit from her influence as we move toward our seventh season and the continued growth of the league and women's hockey."
Haley's responsibilities include facilitating the annual player draft, scheduling, player development, managing and establishing key partnerships, plus overseeing and building on the league's relationships with national governing bodies and collegiate hockey programs.
"My career with the NWHL is very young however this season as a member of the Toronto Six coaching staff my eyes were opened to the potential of this league," said Haley. "I am very grateful to continue my involvement and highly motivated to be part of the future of a viable professional women's hockey league. It's inspiring to work with such a strong leadership group of women across the NWHL."
Haley was an assistant coach during Toronto's inaugural season where the Six played to a first place, 4-1-1 record in Lake Placid competition. Her long association with Hockey Canada is highlighted by serving as an assistant coach for the Canadian National Women's Team that won the gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. She also won four IIHF Women's World Championship medals in that role including gold in 2012 and most recently served Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence as head coach of the National Women's Under-18 Team that captured a silver medal at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Under-18 Championship.
The Westville, Nova Scotia native currently serves as head coach of the Ryerson Rams women's hockey team, a program she helped start in 2011-12, after spending 14 seasons at Saint Mary's University where she compiled one of the best winning records in Canadian women's hockey. In May she'll return to her home province for the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship, where she'll lead the Hungarian National Women's Team in its first appearance in the tournament's elite division with games being played in Halifax and Truro, just minutes from where she grew up.
