Lights FC Winning Streak Snapped by Detroit City FC
July 2, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC and Detroit City FC faced off in the first-ever matchup between these two franchises from opposite USL Championship Conferences.
The teams went into the halftime break with a scoreless draw. Las Vegas striker Nathan Ordaz had the best opportunity of the first half with his shot in the 23rd minute hitting the crossbar.
The Lights had a prime chance in the 59th minute. Off of a set piece, Alvaro Quezada served a cross to Morten Bjorshol whose shot from inside the 6-yard box went directly at goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher who made the save.
Shortly after, Detroit City FC was able to find the back of the net to open the score with what eventually became the game-winning goal. Deklan Wynne elevated the ball, with Connor Rutz getting a header for his first goal of the 2022 USL Championship season.
Lights FC didn't count with Danny Trejo, who was on short term loan with LAFC and was a second half substitution in Los Angeles' 1-0 defeat on the road against Vancouver. Cal Jennings, who has also featured prominently for Las Vegas this season, played in the second half for LAFC.

1-0 Detroit, Connor Rutz - 63rd minute
