Lightning will not play in '02

CHICAGO â The league office of arenafootball2 announced today that the Lincoln Lightning has ceased operations for the 2002 season. af2`s third season will be played with 34 teams, kicking off March 30.
"Due to circumstances that precluded the Lightning operating group to move forward, it was in the league's best interest to take the appropriate time to examine the market place and find local operators that can be in place for the next several years," said Interim Executive Director Jay Marcus. "The city of Lincoln and our Lightning fans have been supportive and it is our desire to return Arena Football to the city in the future."
The updated 2002 regular season schedule will be released soon.
