Lightning Boltz Sign Okafor

January 19, 2003 - Midwestern Basketball Association (MBA) - Dakota Lightning Boltz News Release

The 5 and 1 Dakota Lightning Boltz have just announced the signing of potential NBA draft pick Uche Okafor. According to many NBA scouts and personal, the 7foot Nigerian is a potential late first or early second NBA draft pick. One of the most reliable sources of NBA draft day information, www.nbadraft.net, has Okafor projected as the 33rd pick in this summer’s draft. He withdrew his name from last year’s draft because of injury and now that he is healthy he is looking forward to working out and playing with the Dakota Lightning Boltz. He feels that this will prepare him for the NBA workouts and put him a step ahead of the competition in this upcoming year’s draft.

Head Coach Ryan Miller had this to say,” we see this is as a great opportunity for everyone associated with the Dakota Lightning Boltz. We are looking forward to help develop Okafor’s game so he will be ready to work out for NBA teams in the spring. This will also give the other players on the team the chance to be seen and move their games to the next level.

Lightning Boltz GM Ernie Kuyper also stated, "We are committed to bringing NBA level talent to Huron and the Upper Midwest, and with the signing of Okafor we have proven our ability to sign NBA quality players. The Boltz family is looking forward to their new association in the Midwest Basketball Association."

The Boltz are in Jamestown on the 21st and are back at home in Huron on Wednesday the 22nd of January. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:05 on the 22nd.
