Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 2-1 defeat at Fresno State University Soccer Stadium in Fresno, Ca., against CV Fuego FC. The loss was the fourth straight for the club.

The loss brings the club's record to 3-9-5 (14 points), standing at 10th in the league standings. The result also saw Fuego FC improve to 4-11-1 (13 points), taking 11th in the league.

Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 2-1 loss on the road against Charlotte Independence, which kicked off the two-match road trip for the club.

On a scorching evening in Fresno with temperatures over 100° it was Lexington goalkeeper Amal Knight who stepped out as an early hero, making several noteworthy saves to keep the match scoreless.

Things seemed to be looking up for the visitors when Fuego's captain, Jose Carrera-Garcia, picked up a red card after a collision with Tate Robertson in the 35th minute, giving Lexington SC the numbers advantage.

Despite that, both teams would enter halftime deadlocked at 0-0, with Ates Diouf recording the first shot on target of the night in the 44th minute.

Coming out of the break things took a turn for the worse when Fuego's 17-year-old forward Maximus Ekk managed to sneak one past Knight for the first goal of the night in the 48th minute.

Things would get worse in the 57th minute when the home side scored another, putting Lexington SC down two goals.

Diouf would step up for the second consecutive week in the 62nd minute to get the visitors back within one after an assist by Owen Green, but a failure to score an equalizer saw Lexington SC return home empty handed.

Lexington SC controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 56.5% of the time while also winning in expected goals, seeing a 0.82 to 0.66 advantage.

Next up for Lexington SC the club will return home on July 22 to host Union Omaha for the first time in club history. The match will be a special occasion for the club in which it will debut the All Black kit on the field.
