Let the "Music" play
April 8, 2006 - South Coast League (SCL)
Macon Music News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Professional Baseball Club is proud to announce that they have found an identity, thanks to Clayton Miller of Warner-Robins. His submission of the name "Music" was chosen from over 1,500 entries in the "Macon a Name for Ourselves" contest. He will receive a pair of season tickets for the 2007 Inaugural Season and will also have the opportunity to present the line-up cards on Opening Day at Historic Luther Williams Field.
"Music" struck South Coast League officials as a logical choice for the name of the Macon Baseball franchise. Macon has long been a hotbed of musical history, both attracting and producing many talented artists throughout the years. Among the names tied to the city are Leana Horne, Ottis Redding, James Brown, Little Richard, The Allman Brothers and most recently Jason Aldean. Often referred to as the "Song & Soul of the South," the city is home to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and has had a widespread influence upon the music in the United States.
"A majority of the entries had a music-related theme to them due to Macon's proud musical heritage. Macon and all of Middle Georgia have provided great history in both music and baseball, so it is only fitting that the two pastimes come together. Furthermore, âMusic' is a unique name that has not been used in minor league sports - a name that will allow us some creativity and flexibility in marketing the team throughout the region," notes new Macon GM Matt Krantz.
Select team merchandise items are now available, including caps and t-shirts featuring the Macon Club's new logo. Season tickets are now on sale for the 2007 inaugural season, with a $50 deposit required to reserve a seat.
