
Legends win over Waves

The Albany Legends continued their hot scoring and tenacious defense defeating the Oregon Waves 128 - 95, to regain first place in the IBL International Division. The Legends placed 7 players in double figures, while shooting 50.5% from the field, behind teamwork that generated 34 assists on the night.
The teams paced themselves in the first quarter with Oregon getting a lift from new addition Bob Barry's 7 opening quarter points and hot hands from the charity stripe as Travis DeGroot, Zach White and Hosni Ali combined for 8 of 9 in the period. Yet the Legends UAlbany connection of Scotty McRae & Will Harris canned 12 in the paint as Albany took a 6 point lead into the second stanza 31-29. However the defending champions broke away on a 14 - 1 run to open the second, holding the Waves with out a field goal until Barry's 3 broke the ice with 7:25 left in the half. Albany took a 15 point lead into the locker room at 60 - 45 on back to back to back 3's from EJ Gallup, and Emanuel Mayben, with Gallup canning the final one as the buzzer signaled the end of the quarter.
Out of the locker room, again Albany extended the lead again on a three and a half minute 11-0 run jumping out to a 72 - 45 lead 8:45 left in the third - Gallup, Damone Morris and Lloyd Johnson all dropping long range bombs in the quarter, While Hosni Ali started to catch fire with 9 in the period for the Waves. Going into the final 12:00 Albany was up by 32 98-66. Ali, aided by a pair of 3's from Berry and Leonard Harris, tried to keep it interesting down the stretch scoring 14 in the 4th enroute to his game high 27 points to go with 15 rebounds on the night. Zachary White also tallied a double double for Oregon with a 16 point, 15 ribbey performance. Berry and Harris each dropped in 15, and Travis DeGroot added 11.
Albany was lead off the bench by Lloyd Johnson with 23, and Will Harris with 22, Harris missed the double double by 1 rebound, hauling in 9 for the game. EJ Gallup canned 5 3pointers and closed with 17 points, while Damone Morris added 13, Scottie McRae and Chris Grant each with a dozen and Adam Abdourhamane dropped through 11. Emanuel Mayben and Scott Morton each dished out 7 assists, and Morton hauled in 9 rebounds in the effort.
Albany advances to 6 - 2 on the season and Oregon drops to 3-2. The teams will meet in game 3 of the series tomorrow night. Tip off is at 6:05 at Christian Brothers Academy.
