Legends Reunite Saturday
August 26, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
Among the legendary personalities at Saturday's Tulsa Oilers American Airlines alumni game will be several figures from the Oilers' championship squad of 1993 including Luc Beausoleil, Doug Lawrence and coach Garry Unger.
They will join other former Oilers at the Oilers Ice Center (64th and Mingo) for the second annual alumni gathering Saturday at 7 p.m.
Unger, who had a standout National Hockey League career and at one point held the record for consecutive games played, coached the Oilers to that title. He led the Oilers back to the CHL final the next season as well. Knee surgery prevented him from playing in last year's game, but he is expected to be able to play this year.
Lawrence, one of four players to have his jersey number (number 9) retired by the Oilers, is back for his second alumni game. He was named MVP of last year's game and still holds the Oilers record for games played, assists, points and penalty minutes.
Beausoleil, also back for his second alumni game, is one of the other players to have his number retired (number 17). His 74-goal campaign in 1997-98 is still the Oilers single season record for goals in a season, and ranks as the second highest single season goal tally in CHL history. His 286 career goals ranks as the Oilers all-time high.
Tickets for this year's alumni game are $10 in advance for Oilers season ticket holders, $20 for non-season ticket holders. All tickets at the door will be $20. The admission will include the postgame party with the players.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the Oilers, and general manager Taylor Hall encourages fans to get their tickets early.
"We've got a great group of players and fan favorites coming back, and after the game everyone will have chance to meet with the players and get caught up with them," Hall said.
The Oilers start the CHL regular season on Friday October 16th at Mississippi. The home opener for the Oilers in their 18th CHL season will be Saturday October 24th at 7:35 against the Wichita Thunder.
