Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - For the third straight season, the North American Hockey League has honored Traverse City defenseman Travis White as one of the top rearguards in the North Division. The All-North trifecta was completed this week, as the NAHL released its post- season all-division teams ahead of next week's Robertson Cup championships in Topeka.
White, who has spent three seasons on the North Stars' blue line, became more of an offensive force in his fourth junior season, connecting for career highs in goals (eight), assists (32), and points (40). His 20 power play assists set a team record, and was sixth among all NAHL skaters.
"Travis is pretty much the complete player - skill and work ethic, tremendous versatility, and a leader in the locker room," said Traverse City head coach/GM Anthony Palumbo. "He's been such a big part of everything we've done, any of the successes that we've experienced these last three years. It's great that he can be recognized for all of this for three straight years. He definitely deserves it."
White, a Sterling Heights, Mich. product who won a Robertson Cup championship with St. Louis before being acquired by the Stars before the 2008-09 season, will begin his collegiate career at Ferris State in fall. In his three seasons with the Stars, White accounted for 13 goals, 50 assists, and a +18 plus-minus rating in 158 regular season games. He also appeared in 19 playoff games with Traverse City and 30 in his four-year junior career.
"Anything we've ever asked Travis to do, any role we've asked him to fill - he's done it," Palumbo added. "He's been a tremendous player, a tremendous leader, and a winner at every level."
Motor City's Cody Wydo, who led the NAHL in scoring this season, headed up the All-North forwards, along with Michigan's Andrew Kolb and St. Louis' Chris Ciotti. Mike Monfredo (Motor City) joined White on the All-North blue line, with Robert Tadazak of Michigan in net. White and Monfredo are two-time all-star selections, with White the only three-time honoree.
The North Stars will kick into gear again for 2011-12 with the pre- draft open tryout camp at Centre ICE Arena May 13-15 as the club will begin to restock its coffers for a seventh season.
