
Leading Tackler Fontenette Returns, Shaw Assigned to SaberCats

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned defensive back Ken Fontenette and wide receiver James Shaw. The team also announced that defensive back Demar Dorsey has been placed on recallable reassignment.
"Kenny has been one of the leaders of our defense the last two seasons," said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He is as steady as they get on the back end, and we are excited for his return to the SaberCats."
Fontenette (5-11, 195, Houston) returns to San Jose for his third year in green and gold. Last year, he appeared in all 18 games for the number one rated defense in the Arena Football League, leading the team with 108.0 tackles (90 solo) and 25 pass break ups while adding four interceptions. In 2013, Fontenette also led the SaberCats in tackles with 107.0 (97 solo) while breaking up 22 passes and recording three interceptions.
Before he came to San Jose, Fontenette played for San Antonio in 2012, recording 94.0 tackles (83 solo), 29 pass break ups and six interceptions. As a rookie in 2011, he broke into the AFL with the Kansas City Command, notching 110.0 tackles (102 solo) with 18 pass break ups, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
Shaw (5-11, 190, Jacksonville State) joins the SaberCats after spending his rookie season last year with the Pittsburgh Power. Appearing in eight games, he hauled in 21 receptions for 192 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Shaw returned 15 kicks for 296 yards, an average of 19.7 yards per return.
