HIDALGO, Texas – The Laredo Law pulled out a dramatic win on the last play of the game to stun the Rio Grande Valley Dorados 42-40 at the Dodge Arena. “We went in there with a hostile crowd with a sold out building,” said Law CEO Kiki DeAyala. “We hung in there. It wasn’t pretty, but we hung in their. To win with no time on the clock shows the type of character that we have on the Laredo Law team.”

The Dorados scored on their first possession as QB Abel Gonzalez found WR/DB Manwell Talbert from four yards out for a 7-0 Rio Grande Valley lead. The Law came right back as QB Rocky Perez rolled to his right and gunned a strike to OS Martino Theus in the end zone to tie the game with six minutes to go in the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Dorados capitalized when Gonzalez found Talbert again, this time from 24-yards to make it 14-7 Rio Grande Valley. The Law scored with one minute to go in the half when Perez connected with WR/DB BÂ’Jay Jones from 10 yards, but the point after touchdown was no good, 14- 13 Rio Grande Valley. Gonzalez then found WR/LB McKinley Bowie from 16 yards out for a TD with just 12.5 seconds left in the half to make it 21- 13 Dorados. The Law used the last seconds of the half to the fullest as Perez fired a 30-yard TD strike to WR/DB P.J. Winston with just 1.7 seconds left in the second quarter. At the end of the first half Rio Grande Valley held a 21-19 lead over Laredo.

In the third quarter Dorados kicker Eric Houle kicked a pair of field goals while Law kicker Brian Hegnauer added one and it was 27-22 Rio Grande Valley with time running down in the quarter. Perez hit FB/LB James Dawson with a screen pass that Dawson rumbled with 17 yards into the end zone for a touchdown and a 29-27 lead.

In the fourth quarter the teams traded scores. Gonzalez connected with Bowie for an 8-yard score to give Rio a 34-29 lead. The Law came right back as Perez scored on a one-yard run around the right side to make it 35-34 Laredo. In a back and forth affair Gonzalez led the Dorados to a touchdown with one minute left as he connected with WR/DB Donte Wells for a 27-yard strike and a 40-35 Rio Grande Valley lead. With time ticking down the Law drove to the Rio Grande Valley four yard line with 1.6 seconds to go.
