Laredo Broncos News Release
LAREDO, Texas -Broncos lose in a close battle with the Edinburg Coyotes 6-4 tonight from Veterans Field. Despite a good pitching performance by Santo Hernandez for the Broncos the Coyotes' offense was just too much tonight lighting up closer Henry Lozado in the top of the ninth for two runs. With the loss Laredo falls to 5-6 in a tie for fourth place with the Amarillo Dillos in the United League standings and with the win Edinburg improves to 6-5. Tomorrow the Laredo Broncos play game two of the three game set and it is family fun day out at Veterans Field. For tickets or more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273). Laredo started the game off solid when starter Santo Hernandez struckout three in the top of the first. However, Hernandez would make his first mistake giving up a powerful shot to left field to Coyotes' designated hitter Barrett Rice to give Edinburg a 1-0 lead early.
Hernandez was on fire for most of the game strikingout 13 victims, but the Broncos' ace also had more mistakes. In the top of the fourth Hernandez allowed two separate solo dingers to left field hit by Edinburgs' third baseman Nelson Teilon and first baseman Alexis Hernandez. With the long bombs the Coyotes held a 3-0 lead over the Broncos and the game looked like it was going to be a long one for Hernandez.
Broncos come back to draw within one run in the bottom half of the fourth when Broncos' left fielder Luis Ramos hit into a fielders choice to drive home Juan Lebron and then a wild pitch from Coyotes' starter Eric Montoya allowed Laredo first baseman Hector Lebron to score from third to make it a 3-2 game.
Later in the game with the score tied at three, Broncos took a one run lead in the bottom of the seventh off of an RBI single by right fielder Juan Lebron to bring home designated hitter Chris Judkins to give Laredo a 4-3 advantage.
Hernandez came out for the eight inning and allowed the tieing run to score for Edinburg off of a Teilon sac-fly to right field that scored left fielder Nick Arunda from third.
Broncos' closer Henry Lozado came on to close the top of the eighth, but in the ninth Lozado fell apart and allowed two runs off of two hits to Edinburg. Laredo could not make the comeback in the bottom of the ninth as Coyotes' closer Julio Castro came out and earned his fourth save this season.
