Lancers Win 16-10 in Wichita

Wichita, KS - The Rochester Lancers (9-12) won 16-10 over the Wichita Wings (7-12) this evening. The Lancers were led offensively with five points from Doug Miller (3-point goal and 2-point goal) and Mauricio Salles (3-point goal and 2-point goal), while Gary Boughton added four points (2 2-point goals). Patrick Hannigan made 12 saves in goal for the Lancers. With the win, the Lancers have a one game lead over the Syracuse Silver Knights for the second playoff spot in the MISL's Eastern Division.

The Lancers would open the scoring just over twelve minutes into the game when Carlos "Chile" Farias set up Doug Miller for the left-footed powerplay goal. Mauricio Salles would double the Lancers lead less than a minute before the end of the first-quarter to give Rochester a 4-0 lead after fifteen minutes of play.

The Lancers would score over four minutes into the second-quarter when Kyle Manscuk scored his fourth goal of the season. A little over two minutes later, Gary Boughton's fifth goal of the season would push the Lancers lead to 8-0. The Wings would get on the board just under ten minutes into the second-quarter with Jamie Harding taking the restart pass from Angel Rivillo Ruiz. Twenty-eight seconds later, Boughton would get his second of the game as he pounced on a rebound and put it into the top of the Wings goal. A little over a minute later, Bryan Perez would score on the counter for Wichita to pull them back to within six points at 10-4 after one half of play.

Wichita would take advantage of a Lancers penalty when Kevin Ten Eyck scored off the Perez assist under three minutes into the second-half. The Lancers would answer back on a powerplay of their own with Chile finding Salles who hammered it home from 3-point range to give the Lancers a 13-8 lead as the third-quarter came to a close.

Just under nine minutes into the fourth-quarter, Jamar Beasley toe-poked home the pass from Rivillo to pull Wichita to within three points. With Wichita pulling the keeper in favor of the sixth attacker, Miller scored into the empty goal from beyond the 3-point arc to make the final score 16-10 for the Rochester Lancers.

The Lancers return to action when they travel to take on the Missouri Comets at 4:10 pm on Sunday, February 19th. The Lancers next home match will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 23rd as they host the Wichita Wings. Individual game tickets are still available and start at $10 for adults, and children age 12 and under receive free entry for every regular season home game.
