Rochester Lancers News Release
Wichita, KS - The Rochester Lancers (8-11) fell in overtime to the Wichita Wings (7-10) by a score of 19-17. The back and forth game saw nine lead changes and the game tied seven times. The Lancers were led offensively by Lubo Kocic who had a seven point night on a hat trick of one 3-point goal and two 2-point goals. Andrew Hoxie added a pair of 2-point goals and Carlos "Chile" Farias had a 2-point goal and an assist in his return to Wichita. Patrick Hannigan made 19 saves in goal for the Lancers.
Wichita would get on the board first when Bryan Perez scored a 3-point free kick goal on a top of the arc restart. Carlos "Chile" Farias, in his first game against the Wings after being released by the club earlier in the season, would bring the Lancers to within a point with just less than five minutes left in the quarter. A little over a minute later, Doug Miller would give the Lancers their first lead of the game when he took advantage of a Wichita turnover and finished from within the Wings penalty area. Wichita would get their second 3-point goal of the quarter when Angel Rivillo Ruiz scored from distance to put Wichita back into the lead 6-4 after one quarter of play.
The Lancers would pull even almost three and a half minutes into the second-quarter when a nice passing play between Gary Boughton, Andrew Hoxie, and Jeremy Ortiz ended with Ortiz toe poking the ball into the Wichita goal. Less than four minutes later, the Lancers would retake the lead when Lubo blasted a 3-point goal past Wichita goalkeeper Sanaldo Cavalho. With less than three minutes to play in the half, Daniel Villegas would score Wichita's third 3-point goal of the game and even the match at 9-9. Lubo would get his second goal of the game as he was able to put away a rebound of his own shot and give the Lancers an 11-9 lead at the half.
Wichita would storm out of the half-time break and Alex Moseley would even the game when he found a rebound and poked it into the open goal to tie the game. Three minutes later, Rivillo would get his second goal of the game after Victor Quiroz set him up to give the Wings the lead. Hoxie would once again tie the game when he roofed a shot with just under five minutes gone in the third-quarter. Hoxie would score his second straight goal of the game with just over four minutes left in the quarter to give the Lancers their fourth lead of the game at 15-13 after the third-quarter came to an end.
Jamar Beasley would finish off the chance created by Quiroz and tied the game for the fifth time. Lubo would get the hat trick and give the Lancers their fifth lead of the game when he scored off the rebound of a Chile bicycle kick. With the goalkeeper pulled in favor of the sixth-attacker, Chris Lemons would tie the game again for the Wings as he scored with only nine seconds remaining in regulation. With the game tied at 17 after sixty minutes of play, the game would head to overtime.
After almost nine minutes of end-to-end overtime action, Quiroz would convert on the counterattack to give the Wings a 19-17 victory.
