Rochester Lancers News Release

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (3-6) had their best game offensively of the 2013-14 season, but it wasn't enough as they fell 19-17 to the visiting Missouri Comets (5-2). The Lancers got a seven point hat trick from Gary Boughton and a six point night from Pedrinho. Gavin McInerney made ten saves in goal for the Lancers.

Missouri opened the scoring when Leo Gibson set up Vahid Assadpour for the 2-point goal. The Lancers responded by taking their first lead of the match when Pedrinho took the pass from Mauricio Salles and scored from beyond the 3-point arc. A little over a minute later, Joey Tavernese would set up Boughton for the goal from just inside the penalty area to increase the Lancer lead. The Comets would even the match up when Ramone Palmer scored a 3-point goal off the Coady Andrews assist. But the deadlock didn't last long as with under a minute left in the quarter, Salles would score an unassisted 3-point goal with his less favored right foot to give the Lancers an 8-5 lead after 15 minutes of play.

The Comets began the second quarter when Assadpour set up Gibson for the goal. The Comets would retake the lead a little over a minute later when John Sosa scored from Lucas Rodriguez. Missouri notched their third straight of the quarter when Assadpour scored his second of the game and Gibson picked up his second assist to make the score 11-8. The Lancers tied the game at 11-11 when Boughton scored his second of the game with a blast from beyond the 3-point arc on an assist from Stephen Basso. The Lancers regained the lead when Pedrinho took a pass off the end boards by Doug Miller and finished into the upper ninety of the Comets goal. The Comets would tie the game once again when Stefan St. Louis passed it to Rodriguez who volleyed it home to make the score 13-13 at the half.

Less than a minute into the second half, Boughton tallied his third of the game when Tavernese set him up for the second time. A couple of minutes later, Pedrinho, set up Bato for his first goal as a Lancer when his shot hit the post and bounced in off a Comet. With two Lancers in the penalty box, the Comets took advantage by scoring on the powerplay when Assadpour set up Sosa at the back post for the tap in goal. The Comets evened the match on Palmer's second goal of the game when he got to the rebound of a Bryan Perez shot and poked it home to make it 17-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Comets would get the only goal in the fourth quarter when Assadpour scored his third goal of the game to give the visitors a 19-17 win.
