Lancaster JetHawks News Release
The JetHawks broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the seventh inning and hung on for a 7-6 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night at The Hangar. The win clinched the South Division second half championship for the club.
The five-run frame for Lancaster came with just two hits. They drew five walks and stole five bases in the inning. Bryan Muniz delivered an RBI triple and Jamie Ritchie had an RBI single, one of his three hits on the night.
The JetHawks took the game's first lead with a run in the opening inning, marking the fifth consecutive game they have scored in the first. Myles Straw led off with a single and stole second, Johnny Sewald walked, and Osvaldo Duarte sacrificed them into scoring position with a bunt. Muniz followed with an RBI ground out to open the scoring.
Inland Empire bounced back in the top of the second with a pair of runs on one swing of the bat. Zach Houchins led off with a double and came home on Taylor Ward's two-run homer.
Down 7-2, Inland Empire scored twice in the eighth on a two-run single by Ryan Sebra. They added two in the ninth. Ayendy Perez led off with a triple and two batters later Angelo Amendolare delivered an RBI triple. With one out, Juan Santos was lifted for Andrew Thome. After an RBI ground out by Hutton Moyer and a walk to Zach Houchins, Thome struck out Taylor Ward to end the game.
Scott Weathersby (6-6) earned the win in relief for the JetHawks. Adam Hofacket (1-2) suffered the loss for Inland Empire. He allowed five runs on one hit and issued four walks in two-thirds of an inning.
The JetHawks (77-62) and 66ers (47-91) continue their four game series on Sunday night at The Hangar. Albert Abreu (1-0) will start for the JetHawks against Justin Anderson (8-11). First pitch is 5:05 p.m.
