Minnesota Swarm News Release
Minnesota Swarm rookie sensation Miles Thompson will be traveling to the Twin Cities for a special meet-and-greet on Monday, Jan. 19 at Lions Tap in Eden Prairie from 5 to 7 p.m. Thompson will be available for autographs and photos, and the Swarm is expecting a huge turnout from their fanbase and the local lacrosse community for the event. Swarm assistant coach Aime Caines, forward Corbyn Tao and in-arena host Big D will also be present.
Thompson is off to a fast start with the Swarm (1-1), recording hat tricks in the team's first two games in 2015. Last Saturday night, Thompson's falling down, behind-the-back game-winning goal was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays. The Swarm's next home game is on Friday, Feb. 6 at Ho-Chunk Nation Field at Xcel Energy Center for Native American Heritage Night against the three-time defending champion Rochester Knighthawks (7:30 p.m. start time). Thompson is from Onondaga Nation, N.Y. and is one of four Native American players on the Swarm.
Minnesota selected the UAlbany standout with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft this past September. Thompson, 24, was a co-recipient of the prestigious 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy (lacrosse equivalent of football's Heisman Trophy) with his brother, Lyle, and finished his four-year career at the University at Albany as the school's all-time leader in points (293) and goals (189). The Thompson Brothers became the first Native Americans to ever win the Tewaaraton Trophy this past spring.
Known as one of the game's most lethal scorers, Thompson matched a NCAA record with 82 goals in '14 and was a USILA First Team All-American. As a member of the "Thompson Trio", Thompson and the rest of his teammates at UAlbany captured the attention of the entire country last year during their run to the NCAA Quarterfinals, where they eventually fell to Notre Dame in an overtime contest on National TV on ESPN2.
In the World Lacrosse Championships this summer in Denver, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound righty helped lead the Iroquois National Team to a bronze medal finish.
