CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Jamie Lackner hit a two-out, two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday night at VA Memorial Stadium that gave the Chillicothe Paints (12-10), presented by Adena Health System, a 4-3 win over the visiting Butler BlueSox.

Butler loaded the bases in the top of the first with a hit and two walks with one out. Dalton Hoiles then walked to push home Nick Spangler and give the BlueSox an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Jake Kennedy hit a solo home run to make the Butler lead 2-0.

Chillicothe had chances to score in the second, third, and fourth, but it wasn't until the fifth when they broke into the run column. Jamie Lackner doubled to lead off the inning and, after going to third on a groundout, scored on a Dylan Jones RBI groundout to third base, cutting the Butler lead in half at 2-1.

The first two Paints hitters were retired in the bottom of the eighth. Stewart Nelson, Michael Blatchford, and Jack Thompson all walked to load the bases for Lackner, who singled up the middle to score Nelson and Blatchford, giving the Paints their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Butler loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but a force out at home and a flyout to right field ended the game.

Paints reliever Jack Szott (1-0) got the win, he tossed 3 1/3 innings without allowing a run on two hits, a walk, and two strikeouts. David Current eanred his third save of the year after not allowing a run on one hit and two walks in the ninth.

Butler reliever Zavhary Patterson (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on three walks over 1 2/3 innings.

With the win, Chillicothe jumps Butler for second place in the Prospect League East Division and sits one game back of first-place West Virginia with seven games to play in the first half. The Paints have won four straight and nine out of their last ten.

Next up for the Paints is a three-game road trip in Indiana. They'll play at Lafayette Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 6:35 p.m. and then play at Terre Haute Friday at 7:05 p.m. The games can be heard over the air on 100.9 FM, chillicothepaints.com, or on the Paints Mobile App beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch with the Budweiser Pregame Show.
