Konnichiwa from Japan; Whale of a Game
December 15, 2015 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release
Connecticut Whale 4, New York Riveters 3 (SO)
The Whale overcame a three-goal third period deficit with two tallies from Shiann Darkangelo, including the game-tying tally with just nine seconds left. Kelli Stack scored the only goal of the shootout, while Katia Smolentseva netted the first of her NWHL career. This marks the second straight week Connecticut scored a tying goal in the final minute of play.
Brey Ketchum scored two goals for the Riveters and Jenny Scrivens made 44 saves. Morgan Fritz-Ward added a third goal for New York and Janine Weber had two assists.
The Riveters head to Tokyo on Monday for a stretch of four games in five days against top-level Japanese talent. Nana Fujimoto is expected to see on-ice action during the trip. Connecticut has next weekend off.
Minnesota Whitecaps 5, Boston Pride 4 (Sunday)
Monique Lamoureux, Rachel Bona, Emma Stauber, Sarah Erickson and Brooke White-Lancette scored for the Whitecaps, who finish their 2015-16 run through the NWHL at 2-2-0. Zoe Hickel scored a pair for Boston in the loss and Jillian Dempsey extended her goal streak to four games with a third period tally that cut the deficit to one.
The Pride host the Buffalo next Sunday at Harvard's Bright-Landry Center.
Boston Pride 5, Minnesota Whitecaps 1 (Saturday)
The Pride received five goals from five different goal-scorers (Hilary Knight, Brianna Decker, Rachel Llanes, Amanda Pelkey and Jillian Dempsey) en route to winning the first women's professional hockey game in Minnesota. Boston outshot the Whitecaps 38-23, with Brittany Ott making 22 saves.
'Tis The Season
There's still time to become an inaugural NWHL season ticket holder. Packages in Boston, Buffalo, Connecticut and New York have been prorated and start at just $50. That's a whole LOT of great hockey for one great price.
