Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks learned today that Head Coach Ed Comeau will not be returning for the 2009 National Lacrosse League season. The organization is currently working on plans for the 2009 coaching staff with more details to follow in the coming weeks.
"Eddie helped Rochester win a championship and continued the Knighthawks' winning tradition," said Knighthawks owner Curt Styres. "He made a decision for his career and his family. We thank him for his many years of service to the organization."
Comeau completed his third season as the head coach of the Knighthawks in 2008, and increased his all-time record to 31-17. In 2007, he was named the NLL Head Coach of the Year as he led Rochester to a franchise record 14 wins, 15-game winning streak and a league championship. He was also the two-time head coach of the East Division All-Star team.
Comeau was hired as the third head coach in franchise history on July 23, 2005, replacing longtime head coach Paul Day. Comeau made his Rochester head coaching debut at Colorado on January 7, 2006. In his inaugural season, he led the Knighthawks to a 9-7 record and a second-place finish in the East Division.
He joined the organization on February 27, 2004, after spending five seasons working as an assistant coach for the Toronto Rock. In 2005, he began his first full season as an assistant coach with the Knighthawks, as Rochester finished 10-6 and advanced to the NLL Semifinal. In 2006, he was promoted to head coach, following in the footsteps of Day (1998-2005) and Barry Powless (1995-97).
The Hamilton, Ontario, native began his coaching career in 1998 with the Ontario Raiders and followed the team to Toronto. Comeau won four NLL championships with the Rock, while working for legendary Head Coach Les Bartley in Toronto (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003). In 2003-04, he served as the Rock's interim head coach and collected a 2-4 record before being replaced by Terry Sanderson.
