New Haven Knights News Release
UPCOMING WEEK: The Knights begin the first round of the Colonial Cup playoffs in Elmira, NY on Wednesday and Friday night. Both games begin at 7 p.m. The Knights host the Jackals in game three on Saturday night at Yale University's Ingalls Rink at 7:35 p.m. Game four, if necessary, will be played on Sunday at the New Haven Coliseum at 6:05 p.m.
3/28 ADIRONDACK 4, NEW HAVEN 1: Dominic Chiasson and Yvan Corbin each scored twice in the first period to lead the way for the IceHawks. Kenzie Homer scored New Haven's lone goal at the 13 minute, 55 second mark of the first to cut the IceHawks' lead to 3-1. That would be as close as New Haven would get as IceHawks G Patrick Couture stopped 35 of 36 shots. Olie Sundstrom turned away 35 shots for New Haven in the loss.
3/29 ADIRONDACK 3, NEW HAVEN 1: Trevor Senn scored a goal in each of the first two periods to lead the IceHawks over the Knights for the second straight game. New Haven's Paul Harvey scored in the third period to bring the Knights within one but Adirondack held on and added an empty net goal with 17 seconds remaining.
3/30 ELMIRA 5, NEW HAVEN 4 (SO): New Haven led 4-2 after two periods but weren't able to hold onto the lead as Elmira came back and won in a shootout. Mike Thompson and Greg Olsen scored third-period goals to tie the score 4-4 and force a shootout. The teams went through ten shooters before Greg Olsen scored the game-winner for Elmira. Tom Menicci, Doug Sheppard, Howie Rosenblatt and Kenzie Homer scored goals for New Haven. Jackals G Jeremy Symington stopped 30 shots in regulation while Knights G Olie Sundstrom turned away 40 shots.
TRANSACTIONS: Placed D Bobby Ferraris on the IR.
NOTABLES:
* The Knights are 0-2-1 in their last three games.
* New Haven finished the season with the league's best power play unit (22.3%).
* Tom Menicci finished the season the team's plus/minus leader with a +16.
* New Haven is 21-0-1 when holding their opponents to two goals or less.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:
PLAYER: Paul Harvey - Scored New Haven's only goal in a 3-1 loss on Friday at Adirondack. He added an assist in Thursday's 4-1 loss at home and an assist in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss at home. He was a +1 in three games. GOALIE: Olie Sundstrom - Was 0-2-1 in three games last week for the Knights. Stopped 35 shots ion Thursday's 4-1 loss to Adirondack. He then turned away 21 shots in Friday's 3-1 loss at Adirondack and stopped 40 shots in a 5-4 shootout loss to Elmira in New Haven's season-finale on Saturday. For the weekend, Sundstrom recorded a .906 save percentage and a 3.35 GAA.
