Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees today announced that the organization and head coach Tracy Egeland will part ways under a mutual agreement.

Egeland leaves the organization with a regular season record of 84-87-17 and has coached the team and served as its director of hockey operations since its inception in 2003. The 35-year-old Alberta native had one year left on his contract. After meeting with management over the last week, both sides agreed that now is the time to make a change.

"Tracy bled the teal, gold and black of the Killer Bees," said Bees General Manager Grant Buckborough. "Our organization and the fans should be grateful to Tracy for his dedication to help make hockey successful in such a non-traditional market."

Egeland guided the team to the Central Hockey League playoffs two of his three years as head coach, and was invited to serve as an assistant coach at the 2006 CHL All Star Game.

"I want to thank those who have helped make this team successful," said Egeland. "At least it's after a winning season. The team fell short of a championship, but it was a heck of a run."

A search is underway for Egeland's replacement, and although no specific timeline is in place, the organization hopes to begin interviewing candidates within the week.
