Kiki Stokes's Hot Bat Continues in Win against Bandits

Conroe, TX (June 21, 2017) -To say the Scrap Yard Dawgs offense has found its groove may be an understatement. The Dawgs have scored 20 runs in three games, including eight in the 8-7 win against the Chicago Bandits on Wednesday. The 13-hit showing gives the Dawgs the series win against the Bandits and is its third straight victory.
After the Bandits scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Dawgs answered right back. Allexis Bennett reached on error and scored when Brittany Cervantes drove a ball hard down the third base line for the double and her first RBI as a Dawg. The former Chicago Bandit was able to score off a Meagan May-Whitley bloop single to even the score at 2-2. Cervantes had another hit in the bottom of the fourth to go 2-for-3 on the night.
Dawgs pitcher Miranda Kramer was able to get herself out a jam in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded, the University of Western Kentucky product got Sahvanna Jaquish to line out to Allexis Bennett to end the inning and the threat. Jaquish was hitting .400 leading up to the game. Bennett got the win on the mound for the Dawgs, allowing three runs on right hits. She allowed one walk.
Kiki Stokes gave the Dawgs the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning when she launched a ball to deep right field for her first home run of the 2017 season. The Olathe, Ks. native has had the hot bat of late for the Dawgs, going 7-for-7 in her last two games.
Stokes wasn't close to done. An RBI double down the first base line in the bottom of the third scored Kayla Winfield, who drew the one-out walk. Alisa Goler got the scoring started earlier in the inning when she took a pitch over the right field fence for the home run. The University of Georgia product's solo shot was her second of the season. The home run and Stokes's RBI extended the Dawgs lead to 5-2.
Her second homer of the game - a two-run shot to center - scored Christian Stokes for the 8-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The University of Nebraska product led the Dawgs with four RBIs in the game. Kiki Stokes's batting average has risen from .235 heading into the contest against the Bandits -to .350. Her Husker teammate - Taylor Edwards - drove in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Dawgs.
The Bandits made a game of it in the top of the sixth inning. Stacy May-Johnson drew the walk to start things off for the Bandits. Chelsea Forkin singled to left and advanced on a bunt single by Emily Carosone to load the bases. Jaquish made the Dawgs pitching pay with a line shot that found the gap in left center. The Jaquish double cleared the bases and got the Bandits within a run, 8-7.
Dawgs pitcher Cheridan Hawkins surrendered a two-out walk to Forkin in the top of the seventh to bring up Danielle Zymkowitz. The University of Illinois product flew out to end the game and to secure the win for the Dawgs. Hawkins allowed two runs off two hits in two innings of relief for the Dawgs.
Weather permitting, the Dawgs and Bandits meet again tomorrow for the final game of the series with first pitch tentatively set for 7:05pm.
