Keon Lyn Headed to New York Jets

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Friday that the team has placed defensive back Keon Lyn on the Arena Football League's Other League Exempt list. Lyn has signed a contract with the National Football League's New York Jets.

"We are excited to see Keon catch on with the Jets," Sharks head coach Les Moss said. "It is always great when a Sharks player or any AFL player gets a chance to prove themselves in the NFL. We wish Keon the best of luck as he makes the most of this opportunity."

An AFL rookie, the 23-year-old Lyn (6'1", 205) was originally assigned to the Sharks' roster on July 15. Lyn had yet to appear in a game during his tenure with the Sharks. Lyn originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2014 NFL Draft, but was then waived by Indianapolis in June of that year. Most recently, Lyn spent time with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers prior to the start of the 2015 season. Lyn also participated in the inaugural NFL Veterans Combine, held this past March.

Prior to the start of his professional career, Lyn attended Syracuse University. A regular in the Orange's defensive backfield, Lyn suffered a season-ending knee injury five games into his senior campaign in 2013. The previous year, he started 10 of Syracuse's 13 games, setting career highs with 46 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 10 passes defended. Lyn made nine starts as a sophomore in 2011, totaling 23 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and three passes defended, and also saw limited action as a freshman in 2010.

A native of South Florida, Lyn attended Miramar High School, where he helped lead the Patriots to a state championship as a senior in 2009.

The Sharks also announced Friday that the team has activated defensive back Chris Smith from inactive reserve. Following the transactions, the Jacksonville roster remains at the League maximum of 24 active players.
