Kenyan Star Musa Otieno Returns To Cleveland

The Cleveland City Stars reached an agreement to bring Kenyan defender Musa Otieno back to Cleveland for the 2009 season. Otieno, 34, is currently playing for Santos FC in the South African Premier League.
The immensely popular Otieno was a major component to the City Stars USL-2 championship in 2008. Otieno joined the club half way through the season and started every match during the season's final two months, including all three post season matches.
"We are extremely pleased to bring Musa back for the 2009 season, especially due to our recent promotion to the first division" said City Stars General Manager Mark Geissbauer. "Musa is a great leader and he did an outstanding job of anchoring our back line during last season's run towards the championship. Bringing Musa back is just the first step towards our goal of defending our championship at the first division level."
Otieno logged 566 minutes for Cleveland in 7 matches during the regular season while also recording a goal and an assist.
"I loved my time in Cleveland last season and I was happy to help contribute to the club on and off the field,""The recent promotion to the first division is a great accomplishment and we look forward to the challenge. I'm excited for the chance to return to Cleveland to play in front of the fans that were so great to me and to the team during last year's championship season." said Otieno.
2008 was Otieno's first season abroad after becoming a legendary figure in Africa. The Nairobi native played for the Kenyan National Team from 1993 through 2008 and was a captain at the time of his national team retirement earlier this year.
Outside of his international appearances, Otieno has been a top player in the South African Premier League since joining Santos in 1997. The 6'4" defender was named the Player of the Year in the Premier League following the 2007 season.
