Kelly Smith August WPS Player of the Month

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 8, 2010) - One month after Boston Breakers rookie sensation Jordan Angeli was selected as July WPS Player of the Month, her veteran teammate Kelly Smith has been awarded the same honor for August. Smith, who won the inaugural WPS Player of the Month Award back in April 2009, notched four goals and one assist as the Breakers went 3-1-1 during the past month on their way to clinching a home playoff game in the 2010 WPS Playoffs presented by MedImmune. Smith is the only two-time winner of the POTM award in league history and it's the first time that the same team has won the award back-to-back.

Smith was the runaway top vote-getter among media ballots garnering more votes than other top finishers Amy Rodriguez, Abby Wambach and Marta for the honors. The WPS Player of the Month is given at the end of each month throughout the WPS Regular Season.
