Kelly Nash and Rebecca Morse Return to Defend Isobel Cup with the Riveters
The Metropolitan Riveters have signed two important players from their Isobel Cup championship team: forward Kelly Nashand forward-defender Rebecca Morse.
"I couldn't be more thankful to be a part of this program again," said Nash, who is also an assistant coach at Princeton. "It's incredible to see the continuous growth of the NWHL with an unbelievable amount of talent joining an already high-skill league. I can't wait to get back on the ice with the Rivs"!
Added Morse, "I'm very excited to be returning to the Riveters for a third season. Playing hockey in my home state in front of my family, friends, and the best fans in the league has been an incredible experience. I want to thank them for their continued support. Each season has been better than the last, so I'm eager to see what's in store for season four."
As a rookie with the Riveters last season, Nash was 2-3-5 in 8 games and she was named NWHL Player of the Week on Dec. 11.Nash won two NCAA titles at Wisconsin, in 2009 and 2011. In 153 collegiate games, Nash totaled 69 points on 22 goals and 47 assists. Her coaching career began as an assistant at Vermont in 2013 before her hiring at Princeton last July.
Known for her versatility and reliability, Morse had 2 goals in 13 games last season. Morse played four seasons at Providence between 2010-2014 and had 16 goals and 45 assists for 61 points in 135 games. Among her honors were Hockey East All-Rookie Team as a freshman and All-Hockey East honorable mention as a junior.
A native of Westfield, N.J., she represented the Isobel Cup champions when they were honored by the New Jersey State Assembly in April. In speaking before the Assembly, Morse said of her team and league, "To give you an idea of how far we've come in brief time, our championship game was played before an extremely loud, overflow crowd in Newark, and was viewed on Twitter by more than 800,000 fans. It was a day we will never forget. We are growing, and we are bold and empowered."
