
Kaufmann Earns Second Shutout As A Mallard

ROCHESTER, MI--- Quad City goaltender Jerad Kaufmann earned his second shutout of the season Sunday, turning aside all 21 shots he faced from Bloomington to get the 3-0 victory over the PrairieThunder. The two shutouts tie him for second among IHL goaltenders. The rookie netminder, who joined the Mallards less than two months ago, currently is tied for first in save percentage with Port Huron's Larry Sterling with a.921 percentage. The Mallards have played 26 games since Kaufmann joined the team. In those 26 games, he has appeared in 17, starting the last eight straight.
Muskegon's Robin Bouchard continues to climb the ladder to become the all-time minor league goal scoring record holder. Bouchard, who leads the IHL in points and goals, has registered 36 goals and 32 assists for 68 points in 43 games played so far this season. He currently has 663 total career goals, needing 20 more to break the record, which is held by Don Parsons (683). Bouchard is also two games away from 800 pro career games with Muskegon.
The Fort Wayne Komets have continued their dominant presence on home ice, winning their sixth straight home game after a 4-1 win over Quad City Friday night. They have recorded a 14-3-0-1 record at the half-way mark of 18 home games this season. Last year at the same mark, the Komets were 8-7-1-2.
Bloomington's struggles continue against the Lumberjacks, losing 6-3 to Muskegon on home ice Saturday night. Muskegon is the only team the PrairieThunder have yet to record a victory against, going 0-5-1-0 versus the Lumberjacks so far this season. Muskegon has scored an average of 5.33 goals against Bloomington in the six games played.

Bloomington PrairieThunder (2-2-0-0)- The PrairieThunder are still undefeated when leading after the first (18-0-1-2) and second periods (16-0-1-2). Veteran defenseman Matt Frick missed his first game with the PrairieThunder, ending a string of 93 consecutive games, the second longest in franchise history. Left wing Craig Macdonald had a streak of nine straight games with at least one point snapped in 3-0 loss to Quad City Sunday. The PrairieThunder lost for the first time at home in seven games to Quad City in Sunday's 3-0 setback. Bloomington has proven to be a pretty fine-line team through its first 42 games. The PrairieThunder has scored 135 goals and allowed 136. Bloomington continues to outshoot their opponents, averaging 31.98 shots per game, allowing an average of 30.71 shots against.
Flint Generals (2-1-0-0)- The Generals finished Week 16 earning four of six possible points available, winning two of their three games this week. Forward Jamie Schaafsma scored the game-winning goal against Port Huron, taking the Generals to a big 2-1 win over the Icehawks. It was the first game-winning tally of the season for Schaafsma. Rookie John Mori is currently third in the IHL in shots on goal with 156. He is also ranked third among IHL rookies in goals scored with 13. The Generals struggles on the road have been rough this season, with a 4-17-1-0 record, getting outscored 78-41. However, at home they have a 10-6-1-4 record, outscoring their opponents 68 to 66 at Perani Arena. Rookie netminder Rob Nolan continues to rank among IHL goaltenders, being second in saves (737) and fifth in save percentage (.918).
Fort Wayne Komets (2-1-0-0)- The Komets won two out of three games played for the week, finishing the week on a two -game win streak to improve to 25-13-0-2 for 52 points and third place in the IHL trailing first-place Muskegon by 11 points after 40 games. By comparison, last year after 40 games the Komets were in third place trailing first-place Port Huron by four points. P.C. Drouin has a three-game point streak (1 goal, 2 assists) and Colin Chaulk is riding a three-game assist streak (3 assists). Guy Dupuis set a new Komet record for a career defenseman scoring his 118th all time goal as a Komet Tuesday at Port Huron. The record of 117 was previously set by Jim Burton in 1989. Nick Boucher appeared in his 100th Fort Wayne career game Tuesday at Port Huron.
Muskegon Lumberjacks (2-1-0-0)- In the Lumberjacks 3-2 win Wednesday night over Port Huron marked their fifth third period comeback win so far this season. Muskegon is 8-1-0-0 in their last nine decisions. The Lumberjacks completed the month of January undefeated on home ice with a perfect 7-0-0-0 record, outscoring the visitors 25-9. The -ËJacks current seven-game home ice win streak is one shy of their season best eight-game win streak at home so far this season. In surrendering nine goals against on home ice in seven games in January, Muskegon compiled a goals against average of 1.29. Center Todd Robinson is on an 11-game point streak, scoring two goals and 16 assists (18 points) during the streak. Goaltender Sebastien Centomo has won his last seven decisions (7-0-0-0).
Port Huron Icehawks (1-3-0-0)- The Icehawks losses to Muskegon and Flint marked the first time they lost one goal games in regulation this season. They are now 9-2-0-3 in one goal games. The Icehawks lead the league in second period shots (486) and total shots this season (1371). They have outshot their opponent in 25 of their 43 games and are 18-5-0-2 when doing so. Mickael Bedard (11g, 8a) and Derek Patrosso (7g, 12a) each continued their torrid pace in January with 19 points each in 14 games. Bedard (49) and Patrosso (46) are first and second, respectively in scoring for the Icehawks. Bedard is tied for third in the league in points, while Patrosso currently comes in at sixth. Forward Brandon Kaleniecki was signed by the Icehawks on Tuesday and put up five points (2 g, 3 a) in four games he played last week.
Quad City Mallards (3-1-0-0)- The Mallards won back-to-back games last Saturday night over Dayton and the following afternoon in Bloomington. Quad City has won three of its last four games after dropping its previous five and going winless in its previous six. The Mallards have won seven of their last eight home games. Yesterday's win ended the Mal- lards' five game road losing streak and six game road winless streak (0-5-0-1). Ryan Fultz went six games without a goal and 11 games without a point before scoring the game winning goal yesterday. Mike Zbriger scored yesterday after going pointless in his prior five games, goalless in his eight games and scoring just once in his prior 15 games. Juris Stals ended his six game goal scoring drought by scoring for just the second time in his last 14 games yesterday.
Dayton Gems (0-3-0-0)- The Gems goalies hold their own records: Derek MacIntyre is tied for the most shutouts with three and Ryan Mior has the second highest shootout percentage with.727. The Dayton Gems had one of their biggest crowds on Wright Patterson Air Force Base Night Friday. The evening ended with the special camouflage jerseys being auctioned to the crowd. While the average winning bid was approximately $320, the highest seller was rookie Mike Vaskivuo's jersey at $670. The final tally reached over $7,000 and a portion will be donated to the Air Force Aid Fund. The Gems have four rookies ranked in the top 10 in scoring among IHL rookies: Mike Vaskivuo (t-2nd ) with 30 points, Jonathon Ornelas (t-4th ) with 26 points, Corey Couturier (t-7th ) with 23 points and Tim Hartung (t-9th ) with 21 points.
